What is it?

Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder in which phases of elevation, mania or hypomania, alternate with phases of depression, with stable periods in between. Treatment is based on medication, and psychological support is the complement that helps maintain stability.

Signs and symptoms

Bipolar disorder symptoms in the manic phase are too much energy, little need for sleep, fast speech, grand ideas and impulsive spending or decisions. In bipolar depression, deep sadness, tiredness and loss of interest dominate. The shifts last days to weeks.

How we help

Psychological support for bipolar disorder helps you recognise the first signs of an episode, keep sleep routines, stay with treatment and deal with the impact on family and work, always in coordination with your psychiatrist. Online therapy in English, by video call, with an English-speaking therapist: for people in Portugal and for expats, wherever you live in Europe.

faq

In the manic or hypomanic phase: too much energy, little need for sleep, fast speech, grand ideas and impulsive decisions. In the depressive phase: deep sadness, lack of energy and loss of interest. Between episodes there can be long periods of stability.

The basis of treatment is medication, prescribed and monitored by a psychiatrist. Psychological support is complementary: it helps you recognise the first signs of an episode, keep sleep routines and deal with the impact on family and work.
