What is it?
Anxiety is the body's response to a threat, real or anticipated. It becomes a problem when it is constant, out of proportion or arrives for no reason: that is what happens in generalised anxiety, anxiety attacks and panic attacks, where fear peaks within minutes.
Signs and symptoms
Anxiety symptoms show up in body and mind: palpitations, tightness in the chest, shortness of breath, muscle tension, dizziness, a lump in the throat, worry that will not stop and trouble falling asleep. In a panic attack there is also trembling, sweating and the fear of losing control or dying.
How we help
Anxiety treatment starts by understanding what triggers it and what keeps it going. With cognitive behavioural therapy you learn to calm anxiety in the moment, manage panic attacks and stop avoiding what you fear. Online therapy in English, by video call, with an English-speaking therapist: for people in Portugal and for expats, wherever you live in Europe.
